Previous Section Championships
Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato has participated in the Minnesota State Boy's Hockey Tournament four times. Their first was in 1996 followed in 2008 and 2016 Their most recent was in 2018. LDC's overall record at the state tourney is 1-8.
In their first ever state tournament appearance, the 1996 LDC Dragons came home with a 4th place finish. The run to the tourney started with a win against Monticello, followed by an 8-3 victory over Prior Lake. In the section final LDC beat Hutchinson 5-1. The Dragons were coached by Mike Sundin and assisted by Mark Vatnsdal.
The Dragons made their 2nd tourney appearance in 2008 after a 12 year absence. LDC got three tightly contested wins on their way to a section championship. They defeated Windom 5-2 before going on to get victories against Hutchinson 2-0, and eventually taking home a 3-1 win versus New Ulm. LDC was coached by Chris Olson, Craig McKechney, Duane Lundin, and Terry Dvorak.
In 2016, LDC made a historic run through the section play-offs. Entering as the number 2 seed, the Dragons narrowly escaped a tough Marshal team. LDC got the game winner with 1.8 seconds left in the 3rd to secure a 6-5 win. In the section semi-finals, the Dragons beat Hutchinson in a tough 5-4 battle. To punch their ticket to the tourney, LDC needed a thrilling 7-6 overtime win. The Dragons were coached by Chris Olson, Craig McKechney, Chuck Wedin, Ty Olson and Terry Dvorak.
The Dragons earned their fourth state tourney trip in 2018. After beating Windom 5-3 in the quarter finals, Marshall 4-2 in the Semifinals, they were able to defeat Luverene 4-1 in the section championship game. Coaches were Chris Olson, Craig McKechney, Chuck Wedin, Bill Huhner, Ty Olson, and Tyler Halonen.
